Warriors Track and Field Win Six Events at Santa Monica College West Coast Classic

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors Track and Field team competed in the Santa Monica College West Coast Classic this past weekend.  The Warriors competed against multiple Southern California CCCAA teams such as Ventura, West Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Antelope Valley, Bakersfield, Santa Barbara, and Glendale college. The Warriors emerged victorious in six events and had multiple top three finishes. 

The men's team won three events for the competition.

-Patrick Granger came in first place in the pole vault with a mark of 4.40 meters.

-Derreck Hawthorne came in first in the men's shot put with a mark of 13.79 meters.

-The Warriors came in first place and third place in the 400m hurdles.  Femi Boirard came in first place with a time of 58.99 and Ian Bell came in third place with a time of 1:01.26.

-The Warriors came in 2nd and 3rd in the 800m run.  Cory Ricketts came in second with a time of 1:59.62 and Michael Yaskowitz came in third with a time of 2:00.30.

-Farooq Tariq came in second place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:13.70.

-The El Camino A team in the 4 x 400 relay came in second place in a very tight race with Santa Monica.  The Corsairs won with a time of 3:22.78 while the Warriors came in second with a time of 3:22.98. The A-Team consisted of Chris Pitts, Alec Froning, Cory Ricketts, and Alexander Claessens.

The women's team won three events as well in the competition.

-The 4 x 100 relay team came in first place with a time of 50.26.  The team consisted of Aaliyah Graves, Brittany Anabenawa-Appiah, Sierra Stokes, and Ashlee Arnold.

-The Warriors grabbed the first two podium spots in the triple jump. Aaliyah Graves won the event with a mark of 10.47 meters.  Teammate Samantha Ealy came in second with a mark of 10.18 meters.

-Necole Ellis won the discus throw with a mark of 36.38 meters

-Aaliyah Graves came in second place in the 200m dash with a  time of 26.82.

-Brittany Anabenawa-appiah came in second place in the 400m finals with a time of 1:02.95.

-The 4 x 400 relay team came in second place with a time of 4:24.16.  The team consisted of Sierra Stokes, Samantha Ealy, Anabella Christen, and Ashlee Arnold.

-Yukina Hanamachi came in third place in the high jump with a mark of 1.35 meters.

-Celestina Craft came in third place in the long jump with a mark of 4.76 meters.

 

The Warriors will next compete at the Bakersfield College Relays in two weeks on Saturday, March 14th at Bakersfield College. The Warriors will no longer participate in the CSU Long Beach Invite scheduled for next week.
