Qwintin Workman’s Double Highlights Track and Field at CCCAA Southern California Championships

RESULTS

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Warriors track and field team had a good day at the CCCAA Southern California Regional Championships, but sophomore Qwintin Workman had the biggest day of all. Sophomore Qwintin Workman came in first place in both the 400m hurdles and the long jump.  Overall, the men's team came in fourth place and the women's team came in sixth place in the team standings. Over 16 individual student-athletes and both men's relay teams have qualified for the CCCAA State Championships at San Mateo College.

The women's team had a solid day on the field with a few individuals advancing to the State Championships.  They finished the team competition aspect in sixth place.

Jay Rhambo came in third place in the hammer with a mark of 43.83 meters (143-9).  Kyja Free came in seventh place with a mark of 41.19 meters (135-2). Jay Rhambo has qualified for the CCCAA State Championships.

Necole Ellis came in fourth place in the discus with a mark of 38.01 meters (124-8) on her final throw.  Kyja Free came in seventh place with a mark of 35.64 meters (116-11). Necole Ellis and Kyja have both qualified for the CCCAA State Championships.

Samantha Ealy came in fifth place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.59 meters (38-0.25).  Aaliyah Grisset came in seventh place with a mark of 11.26 meters (36-11.5). Samantha Ealy and Aliyah Grissett have both qualified for the CCCAA State Championships.  Ealy has also qualified in the long jump.

Savannah Sehenuk came in sixth place in the 1500m finals with a time of 5:01.59. Carmen Hernandez came in eighth place with a time of 5:05.84. Savannah Sehenuk and Carmen Hernandez have both qualified for the CCCAA State Championships.

The women's 4 x 100 relay team came in sixth palce with a time of 49.84.  The team consisted of Samantha Ealy, Aaliyah Graves, Aliyah Grissett, and Elizabeth Ibidunni.

Elizabeth Ibidunni came in seventh place in the 400m finals with a time of 59.92.

The men's team also had a great day led by Qwintin Workman's Southern California championship in the long jump and the 400m hurdles. The men's team finished in fourth place overall with 86 points.  

Qwintin Workman led the field in the long jump with a mark of 7.24 meters (23-9) in his final jump. Workman was the opening leg in the 4x100 relay and anchored the 4x400 relay team as well.

Workman also came in first place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.34.  He bested teammates Timothy Mates who came in second with a time of 54.20 and Patrick Washington who came in eighth with a time of 57.11. Workman and Mates have qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in the 400m hurdles.  

Patrick Washington came in second place in the 110m hurdles with a time  of 14.40. Timothy Mates came in fourth with a time of 14.88. Washington and Mates have both qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in the 110m hurdles.  

Chris Pitts came in third place in the 400m finals with a time of 48.05.  Pitts has qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in the 400.

Caleb Ko came in fourth place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:44.32.  Ethan Comeaux came in seventh place with a time of 9:54.82. Both Caleb and Ethan have qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in the 3000m steeplechase.

Last year's state champion, Carson Bix came in fifth place in the 1500m with a time of 3:59.87.  The winner, Chris Weiland came of Mt Sac finished a time of 3:56.07. Manny Gil came in 9th place for the Warriors with a time of 4:06.94.  Bix has qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in the 1500.

Matt Arruda came in sixth place in the 10,000m run with a time of 32:36.45.  Arruda also came in fifth place in the 5000m run with a time of 15:26.44. Arruda has qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in both events.

The 4x400 relay team came in second place with a time of 3:12.53.  The team consisted of Alec Froning, Timothy Mates, Mario Marsetti, and Andre Nieto. The 4x400 relay team qualified for the CCCAA State Championships.

The 4 x 100 relay team came in third place with a time of 41.77.  The team consisted of Jordan Baylis, Timothy Mates, Christopher Pitts, and Landon Sharp. The 4x100 relay team has qualified for the CCCAA State Championships.

Shea Wissler came in fifth place in the decathlon with 5398 points. Wissler qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in the long jump and the decathlon.

Kevin Oliva came in eighth place in the discus with a mark of 41.78 mets (137-1).

The Warriors will now head to the CCCAA State Championships held at San Mateo College.  The event will take place over two days from May 17th-May 18th.
