Big Day for Warriors Track and Field as South Coast Conference Championships Begin

CERRITOS, Calif. -  The Warriors men and women's track and field teams had a great day on the field as the first day of the South Coast Conference Championships began on Tuesday.  While many events had their "finals" on Tuesday, there were also prelims for the rest of the conference championships on Saturday. Mt. Sac, El Camino, and Cerritos are all in the Top 3 so far through the first day of the SCC Championships.  Also, many ECC athletes have now qualified for the Southern California Championships after placing in the top 6 in their individual final events.

The women's team had many great performances yesterday and scored many points in the team competition. The women are currently in third place with 47.5 points through six final events. 

In the women's 10,000 meter run, the Warriors had the 3rd-5th place.  Deana Takoaka came in third place with time of 42:39.94. Sarah Simpson came in fourth place with a time of 43:51.82.  Carmen Hernandez came in fifth place with a time of 44:21.93.

In the triple jump finals the Warriors got third and fourth place.  Samantha Ealy came in third place with a jump of 11.19 meters (36-8) and Aaliyah Graves came in fourth place with a jump of 11.10 meters (36-5).

The Warriors came in first and second in the Hammer finals.  Kyja Free came in first place with a mark of 41.45 meters (136-0) and Jay Rhambo came in second place with a mark of 40.76 meters (133-9).

The men's team also had a great day on the field on Tuesday at Cerritos College. The men are currently in 3rd place with 50 points after six event finals.

Christopher Pitts won his heat in the 200 meter dash and occupies the fifth qualifying position with a time of 22.38.

The Warriors occupy the first, fifth, and sixth positions in the 400 meter run.  Christopher Pitts is first with a time of 48.16, Alec Froning is fifth with a time of 50.94 and Andre Nieto is sixth with a time of 51.48.

The Warriors have the 2nd and 3rd position in the 800 meter run. Cory Ricketts ran a 1:59.67 and Victor Akende is in third with a time of 2:01.06.

The Warriors have 5 competitors within the top 10 in the 1500m run.  Victor Akende is in second with a time of 4:14.78. Manny Gil is sixth with a time of 4:15.33.  Carson Bix made his season debut last week and is seventh with a time of 4:12.57. Ken Valdez is 8th with a time of 4:15.47 and Michael Yaskowitz is 9th with a time of 4:15.36.

In the 10,000 meter finals the Warriors had two competitors within the top four spots.  Matt Arruda came in second place with a time of 32:24.39 and Cole Goldman came in fourth place with a time of 35:01.25.

In the 110m hurdles, the Warriors have four competitors in the top 8.  Patrick Washington is in second with a time of 14.62. Timothy Mates is fourth with a time of 14.91.  Scott Samuel is sixth at 15.20 and Dillon Mendoza is seven at 15.22.

The Warriors occupy three of the top four spots in the 400 meter hurdles.  Timothy Mates is first with a time of 54.38. Qwintin Workman is second with a time of 55.14.  Patrick Washington is fourth with a time of 57.08.

Declan Harman and Armon Gorgani tied for fourth place in the pole vault finals with a mark of 4.15 meters.

Kevin Oliva came in thrid place in the hammer finals with a mark of 38.27 meters (125-7).

Shea Wissler came in first place in the javelin finals with a mark of 51.07 meters (167-7).  His throw was 10 feet further than any other competitor. Wissler also came in second place in the decathlon finals after scoring 5398 points.

The Warriors will return to action on Saturday for the conclusion of the South Coast Conference Championships at Cerritos College.  The discus competition begins at 10:30, the high jump at 11:00 AM, and the running events begin at 12:00 PM.
