Warriors Compete at Cal State LA Twilight Open

RESULTS

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The majority of El Camino's track and field team competed at Cal State Los Angeles's Twilight Open Invitational this past week before the South Coast Conference Championships start.  The Warriors competed against some NCAA competition like Marquette and some NCAA Division 2 teams such as Cal State LA, University of Mary, Cal State Dominguez, and Bemidji State university. Although there no individual winners for the Warriors, they more then held their own against the higher level of competition.  

On the women's team there were a few standout performances.

Carmen Martinez came in 4th place in the 1500m run with a time of 5:08.20.  

Aliyah Grissett came in third place in the triple jump with a jump of 10.52 meters.

Kyja Free came in third place in the discus with a throw of 39.51 meters (129-7 feet).  Free now has the #7 spot on the ECC All-Time top 10 list and received an "A" standard for CCCAA state qualifying purposes.

Necole Ellis came in fifth place in the same event with a throw of 33.10 meters.  

On the men's team there were also a lot of great performances.

Dhahran Woods came in fifth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.92.

Victor Akende came in fourth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.02.  Akende also came in second place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:04.94. Ethan Comeaux came in third place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:05.63 and Matt Arruda came in 6th place with a time of 4:08.90.

Timothy Mates came in fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.13

Jordan Baylis came in third place in the high jump after jumping 1.92 meters.

And in the Mt. Sac Relays, Caleb Ko competed in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase event and came in 9th place with a time of 9:41.14 against NCAA and International competitors.  

The Warriors will now compete in the South Coast Conference Championships this week.  The main championships begin on Saturday while on Tuesday there will be finals for certain events and prelims for other races.
