RESULTS

GLENDALE, Calif. - This past week the El Camino College Track and Field teams competed at the Vaquero Classic Invitational hosted by Glendale College.  The 4th annual event brought together teams from Orange Coast, Cuyamaca, San Bernardino, West LA, Bakersfield, Hancock, Santa Monica, Fullerton, Long Beach City, Ventura, Canyons, Cuesta, Club and Unattached athletes, and the hosts Glendale. There were many standout performances from the women and men with a couple of wins and top performances.  

In the men's competition, there were multiple winners for El Camino and multiple top three finishes.

In the 5000 meter run, Matt Arruda came in first place with a time of 15:33.53.  Arruda is currently #8 in the state.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Ethan Comeaux came in first place by ten seconds with a time of 9:53.59.  Comeaux is currently #10 in the state.

In the 400m run, Dhahran Woods came in first place with a time of 49.94.  He narrowly beat teammate Timothy Mates who came in second place with a time of 50.78.  While teammate Alec Froning finished in nearby fourth place with a time of 51.57. Woods came in third place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.08.

Victor Akende came in second place in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.69.

The Warriors came in second, third, and fourth in the 110m hurdles.  Patrick Washington came in second with a time of 14.90. Timothy Mates came in third with a time of 15.00.  Dillon Mendoza came in fourth place with a time of 15.10

The Warriors won the 4x400 relay race with a time of 3:19.37.  The relay team is currently ranked #6 in the state.  The team consisted of Alec Froning, Dhahran Woods, Christopher Pitts, and Qwintin Workman

And lastly, Qwintin Workman won the long jump with a jump of 7.07 meters (23'2.5").  Workman set a new meet record and is currently #7 in the state.

The women had some great results in the field events.

Jay Rhambo won the hammer throw which was hosted at El Camino College.  Her winning throw was for 44.28 meters (145'3") which was second in the all-time El Camino performances in that event and is currently 9th in the state.  Rhambo also came in third place in the shot put with a throw of 11.05 meters (36'3").

Kyja Free came in in second place in the discus throw.  Her best mark came in at 35.65 meters (116'11). Free came in third place in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.32 meters (135'7").  

Necole Ellis came in fourth place in the discus throw with a mark of 35.01 meters (114'10").  

In the women's long jump, Samantha Ealy came in second place with a jump of 5.42 meters (17'9.5").  Ealy came in second place as well in the triple jump with a jump of 11.37 meters (37'3.75"). Ealy is currently #5 in the state in the trimple jump.  Aliyah Grisset and Aaliyah Graves came in fourth and fifth place for the Warriors in the triple jump with jumps of 10.94 meters and 10.93 meters respectively.

The women's 4x400 relay team came in second place with a time of 4:30.87.  The team consisted of Elizabeth Ibidunni, Aliyah Grissett, Ashley Reamer, and Aaliyah Graves.  THe 4x100 relay came in second place as well with a time of 50.32. The team consisted of Aaliyah Graves, Elizabeth Ibidunni, Samantha Ealy, and Ashley Reamer.  

The men and women will sit idle for this week as they prepare for a couple of the biggest races of the season in the upcoming weeks.  Next week, El Camino College will be host to the Mt. Sac Relays once again and in the week after that, the Warriors will compete at the South Coast Conference Prelims and Championships.  

Wissler Qualifies for CCCAA State Championship Decathalon

CERRITOS, Calif. - Earlier in the week, Shea Wissler competed in the two day CCCAA Southern California Decathlon competition.  Wissler came in fifth place in the event and qualified for the CCCAA State Championship. After the third day and through five events, Wissler was sitting in third place.  In the first event of the second day of competition (110m hurdles), Wissler suffered a hamstring strain and dropped to seventh place in the standings. He had a personal best in the javelin and had a strong finish in the 1500m run to move up to fifth place to finish out the competition.
