Warriors Compete at Riverside City College Open

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - On Friday, the El Camino men and women's track and field teams competed at the Riverside City College open invitational where they competed against a couple of the state's top CCCAA squads.  Riverside came in first place in both the men and women's team standings. The El Camino men came in third while the El Camino women came in fourth. The goal for most teams at the meet was to familiarize themselves with the site, since it will host the upcoming Southern California Sectional Prelims and Finals.  

There were a couple standout performances from the men's team.  Patrick Washington and Timothy Mates came in first and second place in the 110m hurdles.  Washington finished in first with a time of 14.74 and Mates came in second place with a time of 15.38.  Washington, Mates, Josue Vargas, and Dillon Mendoza proceeded to win the Shuttle Hurdle Relay with a time of 1:00.19.  The 4x100 men's relay team consisting of Dhahran Woods, Christopher Pitts, Andre Nieto, and Alec Froning came in third place with a time of 43.66.  The 4x400 relay consisting of Alec Froning, Qwintin Workman, Dhahran Woods, and Christopher Pitts came in second place with a time of 3:19.18. Kevin Oliva came in first place in the shot put with a mark of 14.31 meters (46'11.5").   He also came in second place in the discuss with a toss of 42.53 meters (139'6"). Jordan Baylis won the high jump with a mark of 1.85 meters (6'0.75').

There were also a couple of standout performances from the women's team. In the 1500m run, Savannah Sehenuk came in third place with a time of 5:13.35.  Samantha Ealy won the triple jump with a mark of 11.28 meters (37'0.25"). Aliyah Grissett came in third place in the triple jump with a mark of 10.69 meters (35'1"). Jay Rhambo came in second place in the shot put with a throw of 11.58 meters (38'0"). Rhambo also came in third place in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 42.56 meters (139'7").  Necole Ellis won the discus toss with a throw of 37.92 meters (124'5"). Her discuss performance was the 10th all time in El Camino College history.

This friday on March 22nd, El Camino College will host the 2nd annual El Camino College Invitational at Murdock Stadium. The all-day affair is supposed to begin at 12:00 PM for field events and 3:00 PM for running events.
