Outstanding Individual Performances by many Warriors at the Cerritos Invitational
CERRITOS, Ca. - There were many fine individual performances for the men's and women's track El Camino College Track Team at the Cerritos Track and Field Invitational on Friday February 23rd and Saturday, February 24th. The competition not only featured other schools such as Mt. SAC, Cerritos, Pasadena, Southwestern, San Bernardino, Cuyamaca, East LA, but it also featured many unattached athletes and different track clubs.
For the men's team there were multiple standout performances by individuals in multiple events. Qwintin Workman placed 4th overall in the 100m with a time of 11.04. Dhahran Woods tied with Workman in the 100m race with a time of 11.06 and finished in second place overall in the 200m race with a time of 21.95. Wyatt Davidson came in 1st place in his 400m heat and finished with the 2nd best time overall clocking in at 49.38. Davidson would also place 5th in the long jump with a jump of 1.75 meters. Carson Bix led the way for El Camino in the mid-distance events. He came in 1st place overall in the 1500m with a time of 4:06.26 and came in 2nd place overall in the 800m race with a time of 1:58.05. Caleb Ko won his heat in the second 1500m race with a time of 4:11.75 and came in 7th place overall in the event. Spencer Coneybeare had a top 5 finish in the 800m race with a time of 2:01.38. In the 110m hurdles race, ECC had two people in the top 4. Jasher Foster won the race with a time of 14.16 and broke a 40 year old school record set in 1978 by Russell Higgins who ran a 14.20. Justin Moore had the 4th overall best time in the 110m hurdles race with a time of 15.26
In the 400m Hurdles race, ECC would have three races finish in the top 5. Workman continued his solid day with a second place finish in the race with a time of 55.91. Jasher Foster would finish come in 4th place with a time of 56.71 narrowly beating his teammate Justin Moore who came in 5th with a time of 57.72. In an exciting 4x400m relay race led by (Timothy Mates, Larry Hudson, Davidson, and Workman); The race came down to a final lean at the finish line as Workman ran a 47 seconds anchor leg and Mt. Sac (3:18.37) edged the Warriors by a few hundredths of a second (3:18.32). Workman would lead the Warriors in the long jump with a 4th place finish with a jump of 6.55 meters. Tate Curran easily defeated his competition in the pole vault with a height clearing of 5.10 meters (16, 8 3/4th) and moved into the #2 all-time ECC performer.
Tyra Jackson led the Warriors with a solid 5th place finish in the 2-day heptathlon competition. With her final tally of 3,825 points, Jackson placed 4th on the ALL TIME performance list for ECC. Jackson also placed 3rd overall in the triple jump with a jump of 10.37 meters and ran a leg for the Warriors in the 4x400m relay race. Lauryn Johnson tied for 3rd place overall in the long jump with a jump of 4.88 meters. In the shot-put El Camino finished in 3rd and 4th place. Kyja Free (11.04 meters) came in 3rd with teammate Leslie Gonzalez placing behind her in 4th place with a throw of 10.82 meters. In the javelin throw, Kendall Benson came in 4th place with a throw of 25.85 meters. Savannah Sehenuk came in 6th place in the 1500m race with a time of 5:11.38 and 7th place in the 800m race with a time of 2:32.14.
The Warriors will return home this weekend as they host the 1st Annual El Camino College Invitational on Saturday, March 3rd. Field events will begin at 9:00 AM and the running events are scheduled to begin after 1:00 PM.
