Park, Samayoa Add to Trophy Case on Day Two of 3C2A State Championships

COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Freshman Iyanah Samayoa and sophomore Mia Park continued their successful weekends on day two of the 3C2A State Championships at the Orange Coast Aquatics Pavilion in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Samayoa claimed the state championship in the 100 breaststroke on Friday afternoon. She qualified with the fastest time in prelims and then capped off the day by winning the final in 1:04.09, lowering her school record in the process. She edged out Madeleine West of Santa Rosa who finished second with a time of 1:04.79. Samantha Fehr of Las Positas placed third in 1:05.93.

Park also picked up her second state title of the week as she claimed the 200 free in 1:50.71 to break the ECC record. She also missed breaking the meet record by a shade over half a second. Maddie Myers of Santa Barbara placed second (1:52.69) and teammate Caroline Oates finished third in 1:54.10.

The women's 200 medley relay team of Park, Samayoa, Danielle Ciscel and Diana Nguyen also received a medal on Friday, placing third in the event with a time of 1:49.81, setting a new ECC record in the process.

On the men's side, Fin Kircher earned a medal as he placed third in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:03.73. Zachary Zauhar-Kurr of Las Positas took the gold in 3:56.31 and Greyson Davies of Grossmont took second place in 3:59.90.

Other performances from Friday included:

  • The men's 200 medley relay team (Alex Yousefi, Ryan Song, Vincenzo Crivello, Justin Rash) set a new ECC record with a time of 1:35.10
  • Yousefi set a new record in the 50 backstroke, posting a 23.85 during his split in the 200 medley relay.
  • Yousefi set a new school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.13.
  • Yousefi set another school record, breaking the 100 backstroke mark with a time of 51.50. The record was just set yesterday by Kircher.
  • Kircher set a new school record in the 200 free, posting a 1:40.33 during the 800 medley relay.
