Warriors Sweep Top Awards as All-Conference Teams Announced

2019 All-Conference Teams

El Camino College took home the top three awards as the 2019 All-South Coast Conference, South Division teams were announced.

For the second straight season, sophomore Diamond Lewis was named the SCC South Player of the Year. She is the first repeat winner of the award since the 2014-15 seasons. Lewis had an incredible season as she batted .443 on the year with 16 doubles, five home runs and 29 RBI. She led the conference with a .559 on-base percentage and .765 slugging percentage while also posting 33 stolen bases.

Sophomore Jocelyn Hernandez was named the SCC South Pitcher of the Year after having a dominant season in the circle. Hernandez went 15-1 with a 1.41 ERA in 104.1 innings pitched. Those numbers came in addition to her excellent year with the bat as she batted .414 with 16 doubles and 29 RBI.

Head coach Jessica Rapoza took home the SCC South Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to a 34-6 overall record and a 20-2 mark in conference play. Both of those records are the best regular season marks in Rapoza's five-year stint at the helm of the ECC softball program. The Warriors also enter the postseason on an 18-game winning streak to end the regular season, the program's second longest streak under Rapoza.

Along with the top awards, the Warriors also earned two additional selections to the All-SCC South First Team, three spots on the All-SCC South Second Team and one Honorable Mention.

Outfielder Mina Nakawake and pitcher Elizabeth Cortez earned First-Team spots as freshmen. Nakawake batted .362 for the Warriors with 11 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Cortez went 10-3 in the circle and posted an impressive 1.52 ERA in 78.1 innings pitched.

Alena De La Torre, Marissa Garza and Brooklyn Araujo found their way onto the All-SCC South Second Team. De La Torre capped off her Warriors career at shortstop, batting .283 on the season with 14 RBI and 22 stolen bases. Garza was the catcher for the Warriors' solid pitching staff and also managed to hit .333 on the year with two home runs and 28 RBI while posting a .984 fielding percentage. Araujo helped patrol the middle of the infield, playing the majority of the time at second base. She batted .309 with two home runs, nine doubles, four triples and 23 RBI. She also added 10 stolen bases.

First baseman Kylee Perryman earned Honorable Mention after batting .295 in 35 games played. She had two home runs, two doubles and 24 RBI on the season. She also drew more walks (13) than strikeouts (10) in 78 at-bats.

The Warriors are the No. 4 seed in the CCCAA Softball Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host No. 13 San Diego Mesa beginning Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the ECC Softball Field.
