Big First Inning Propels Softball over Citrus College

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College scored eight runs in the first inning and held onto a 9-6 win over Citrus College on Friday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The Warriors (25-6) have now extended their win streak to nine games, their longest streak of the season.  

All nine runs that the Warriors scored today were unearned runs.   As the Citrus Owls (16-16) committed five errors including four of them in the first inning.  

Elizabeth Cortez picked up her eighth win of the season in the circle.  She tossed 4 innings giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits, two walks, and striking out two batters.  Emily Piera tossed 1.1 innings and Laura Chafe pitched the final 1.2 innings. Danielle Dominguez suffered the loss for the Owls tossing all six innings and allowing 9 unearned runs.  

The Warriors had nine hits for the day including six in the big first inning.  Jocelyn Hernandez was the only Warrior to have a multi-hit day for the home side.  

The Warriors sent twelve batters to the dish and scored eight runs in the first inning.  The first six batters reached the bases before the Owls made their first out of the inning.  

El Camino College proceeded to change nearly the entire lineup after the first inning.  Citrus was able to chip into the large Warriors lead with runs in the third, fifth, and sixth inning.  

The Warriors will host Compton next Tuesday, April 9th at 3:00 PM.  That will be the end of their four game home stand before they head into a five game road trip.
