Finally!: Warriors Outlast Santiago Canyon to Advance to First CCCAA State Championships

TORRANCE, Calif. – It took two tough wins and nearly four hours of softball but No. 4 El Camino College punched its ticket to its first ever California Community College State Championships with a pair of wins over No. 5 Santiago Canyon in the CCCAA Super Regionals Saturday at the ECC Softball Field.
The Warriors advance to the CCCAA State Championships for the first time ever and will be joined by No. 1 Palomar, No. 2 Mount San Antonio and No. 3 Cypress from Southern California along with No. 1 College of San Mateo, No. 3 Sierra, No. 5 Ohlone and No. 7 Delta from Northern California. The CCCAA State Championships will get underway Thursday at Mount San Antonio College and are scheduled to conclude with a champion on Sunday.

CCCAA Super Regionals Game Two: El Camino College 5, Santiago Canyon 0
After the team dropped game one on Friday, right-hander Clarissa Chiquete was outstanding in the circle in a must-win game for the Warriors to start things off on Saturday. The freshman tossed a complete-game shutout and surrendered just four hits and one walk in the team's first elimination game of the day.
Karla Calderon had a great day at the plate on Saturday and started it off with a 2-for-3 performance in game two. The sophomore outfielder provided all the run support Chiquete would need as her RBI single in the first inning plated Diamond Lewis from second base to put the Warriors up 1-0.
Chiquete maintained that lead throughout, allowing only two runners to reach second base for the entire game. She retired the side in order three times, setting down 10 batters in a row at one point.
The Warriors offense provided their pitcher some insurance in the sixth, scoring four times on RBI hits from Alena De La Torre, Jasmine Krauss and Alyssa Wing to secure the win.
CCCAA Super Regionals Game Three: El Camino College 10, Santiago Canyon 6
The Hawks finally solved Chiquete in the first inning of game three. Rylie Seip singled to second and then stole second base. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on an infield single to give the Hawks their first lead of the day.
It would prove to be short-lived though as the Warriors jumped all over starting pitcher Nicole Yniguez while also capitalizing on three Hawks errors. By the end of the first, the Warriors had scored six runs, only two earned, on four hits in the frame. Lewis, Calderon, Kassidy Robinson, and Alena De La Torre all had hits in the frame.
In the second, the Warriors put the game away with three more runs on three more hits and two more Hawks errors. Calderon stole third and then took home on a throwing error by the pitcher to score the first run of the inning. Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to plate Machado and De La Torre singled in Rylee Rehders to put the team up 9-1 and they never looked back.
