Softball Faces Santiago Canyon With State Championship Berth On the Line

TORRANCE, Calif. – The No. 4 seed El Camino College softball team hosts No. 5 Santiago Canyon this weekend in the California Community College Softball Super Regionals beginning Friday at the ECC Softball Field.

The winner of the series will advance to the eight-team CCCAA State Championships, which will take place at Mount San Antonio College beginning May 17.

Game 2 – Saturday, May 12th (Noon) at ECC Softball Field
Game 3 (If Necessary) – Saturday, May 12th (2:00 PM or 30 minutes after Game 2) at ECC Softball Field

All games will be seen live on our live stream courtesy of Stretch Internet. Each game will be $7.95 but is free for those who purchased the 2018 Softball Season Plan this season.

MAKING THE EIGHT

This year, the CCCAA Softball Super Regionals will have four teams from Southern California and Northern California advance to the CCCAA State Championships with four series in each region determining the participants. In previous years, two teams from each region advanced by winning an a four-team Super Regional.

The Warriors will be looking for their first berth into the CCCAA State Championships in program history this weekend.

HOW THEY GOT HERE: SUPER REGIONAL EDITION

The Warriors earned the No. 4 seed in Southern California after winning their second straight South Coast Conference, South Division championship. They faced the No. 13 seed Santa Ana in the CCCAA Regionals and dispatched of the Dons with a two-game sweep, winning 1-0 and 12-3 respectively.

The Hawks earned the No. 5 seed in Southern California after finishing third in the Orange Empire Conference, one game back of Santa Ana. They finished the regular season with a 30-10 mark and 14-7 in conference. The Hawks defeated No. 12 seed Pasadena in the first round, beating the Lancers in three games to advance. They scored four runs in the final two innings of game two to overcome a 3-0 deficit and win and then led wire-to-wire in a 6-4 victory in game three.

WE MEET AGAIN

The Warriors and Hawks met once during the regular season with ECC scoring a 6-3 victory at the ECC Softball Field. Diamond Lewis and Alyssa Wing each recorded two hits as the Warriors overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win.
