Lewis Named Player of the Year as All-Conference Honors are Announced

2018 All-South Coast Conference Teams

El Camino College third baseman Diamond Lewis capped off an outstanding regular season with the South Coast Conference, South Division's highest honor as the 2018 All-SCC South Division Teams were announced Sunday.

Lewis earned SCC-South Player of the Year honors after leading the Warriors in hitting all season and helping the team win its second straight SCC-South Division title and third in the last four seasons in 2018.

In addition, the Warriors nabbed eight All-SCC-South Division honors including Lewis and nabbed one Honorable Mention slot this year. Alissa Cienfuegos of Long Beach earned SCC-South Pitcher of the Year honors while Kodee Murray of Cerritos was named the SCC-South Division Coach of the Year.

A freshman out of Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, Calif., Lewis led the Warriors with a .492 batting average on the season. She finished the year with 62 hits, which ranked seventh in the state and led all of California with 25 doubles during the regular season. Lewis played in 37 of the Warriors 40 games this year and began the season with a 27-game hitting streak.

Along with Lewis, Annie Adamos, Karla Calderon, Ashley Machado, Kassidy Robinson and Alyssa Wing earned spots on the All-SCC South First Team.

Adamos earned her second straight All-SCC selection after earning a spot on the second team as a freshman. The first baseman hit .379 on the season for the Warriors and had 22 RBI to go along with 18 stolen bases.

Calderon earned her first career all-conference selection after a great sophomore year that saw her hit .326 with 22 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

Machado was another second-time All-SCC selection after earning a spot on the second team last year. She led the team and the conference with 29 stolen bases on the season which also ranked sixth in the state. She hit .327 with two home runs and 29 RBI for the Warriors this season.

Kassidy Robinson was a breakout player for the Warriors after red-shirting last season. The freshman batted .406 this season and led the team with eight home runs. She also drove in 22 runs and stole 24 bases.

Wing earned her second straight first team selection after earning player of the year honors in 2017. The Warriors shortstop capped off her career by batting .327 with two homers, 29 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

The Warriors pitching duo of Clarissa Chiquete and Maisie Weishoff earned All-SCC South Second Team nods this year after helping lead the Warriors to 31 victories this season. Chiquete led the conference with 15 wins in the circle with just three losses and posted a 2.51 ERA in 115 and 2/3 innings pitched.

Weishoff matched her teammate's workload with 115 and 2/3 innings, posting a 13-6 record with a 2.84 ERA.

Sophomore Jazmyn Sancen earned Honorable Mention after batting .300 in 21 games played for ECC. She stole 14 bases and had 12 RBI.

The Warriors will open the CCCAA State Championship Playoffs on Friday as the No. 4 seed in Southern California and will host No. 13 Santa Ana at the ECC Softball Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
