Wing Helps Warriors Soar Past Falcons

TORRANCE, Calif. – Shortstop Alyssa Wing had a solid day at the plate as El Camino College upended Cerritos College, 10-3, in a South Coast Conference, South Division matchup Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

The game was resumed under protest by the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth inning with Cerritos leading the game 3-2. Catcher Ashley Machado scored the game-tying run on the play in question. Should the protest be validated, the game will be resumed with the Falcons leading 3-2 and one out in the fifth.

On Tuesday, the Warriors struck first with runs in the first and fourth innings on RBI singles from Fiona Mutu and Karla Calderon.

The Falcons responded in the fifth inning with three runs to take the lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Machado would reach after she was hit by a pitch. She would officially come around to score on a stolen base and an error, but the sequence in question was protested by the Falcons.

The Warriors would score twice in the inning to retake the lead and then added six in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

Wing finished the day 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to lead the offense while Maisie Weishoff scored her fourth straight victory in the circle, tossing two and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

The Warriors will host East Los Angeles on Thursday in an inter-divisional matchup at the ECC Softball Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
