Warriors Split Pair of Games on Opening Day

Warriors Split Pair of Games on Opening Day

El Camino College opened the 2018 regular season with a run-rule victory followed by a narrow loss in a doubleheader at Citrus College.

EL CAMINO 10, SOUTHWESTERN 0

The Warriors pounded out 13 hits including seven for extra bases as they routed Southwestern in the first game of a twin bill hosted at Citrus College. Ashley Machado, Kassidy Robinson, Annie Adamos and Jazmyn Sancen all hit home runs and Clarissa Chiquete allowed just three hits and one walk in the circle as the Warriors cruised to a victory in their season opener in five innings.

Machado finished the game going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. The Warriors scored seven runs in the first three innings and then tacked on three more in the fifth to secure the victory.

CITRUS 8, EL CAMINO 6

The Warriors fell behind big and could not recover as the Owls took home the victory. Citrus took a 6-0 lead after three innings and it proved too much to overcome for the Warriors. El Camino trimmed the deficit in half with three runs in the sixth inning but the Owls responded with a pair of runs in their half of the inning to regain a five-run cushion.

In the seventh inning, Alyssa Wing hit an RBI double and Jasmine Krauss did the same to plate Wing to cut the deficit to 8-5. Rylee Rehders hit an RBI groundout to make it 8-6 but the Warriors would get no closer and finished the day with a split.

The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they play their home opener at 1 p.m. against Moorpark. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
