Machado Commits to San Jose State

El Camino College standout Ashley Machado officially submitted her National Letter of Intent to San Jose State University to continue her softball and academic career, it was announced Tuesday.

Machado has committed to play for the Spartans for the 2019 season, meaning she will complete her sophomore year with the Warriors in 2018.

The Warriors backstop joins a Spartans program that won its first Mountain West Conference championship in 2017 in just its fourth season competing in the conference. They advanced to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship UCLA Regional where they went 1-2. Overall, the Spartans finished 2017 with a 37-19 record and 16-8 mark in conference play.

Machado earned All-South Coast Conference Second Team honors in 2017 as she was a spark plug for the Warriors offensively while also handling the pitching staff the bulk of the year. She batted .404 on the season to go with a .550 on-base percentage and .651 slugging percentage. Machado also led the team with 41 stolen bases. She finished the season with nine doubles, six triples, two home runs and 41 RBI while also drawing 24 walks. Behind the plate, the catcher also threw out eight of 23 runners attempting to steal including four of five during conference play.
