Softball Beats Antelope Valley in the First Round of Southern California Super Regional

WALNUT, Calif. - The No. 3 seed Warriors continue down the path to State Championships, beating No. 6 seed Antelope Valley College in the first round of the Southern California Super Regionals. The Marauders took an early lead, but the Warriors came back for the win, 6-3.

The Warriors had a slow start, giving up two runs in the first inning. El Camino waited until the bottom of the third inning to gain the lead. Leading by four in the seventh, Antelope Valley's last minute efforts earned them their third and final run. Valerie Dorantes popped out to second to end the game.

Haley Reed pitched seven innings for the Warriors and gave up three runs and five hits. Friday night's win over the Marauders marks Reed's 17th win as the Warriors extend their season record to 37-6.

As the Warriors trailed by two in the third inning, Ashley Machado recorded the only triple of the match to giver her two RBI. She ended the night with three RBI and went 1-3 at the plate.

Raelani Camez, Julianne Adamos, and Kamryn Fisher each earned an RBI. Kattya Calderon went 2-2 at the plate while also logging two of the Warriors' runs. Her sister, Karla, also recorded two runs and went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Coach Jessica Rapoza commented on the team's performance, stating that what contributed to the success of the game was "being able to hit the ball on the ground with runners on base. We didn't get a lot of hits but we had a lot of production once we got runners on base and being able to move them around"

The Warriors continue double elimination play on Saturday, as they face No. 2 Mt. San Antonio College at 3 p.m.
