Reed Does it All to Help Lead Warriors to Super Regionals

TORRANCE, Calif. – Haley Reed had a perfect day with the bat and picked up the victory in the circle, leading No. 3 seed El Camino College to a 6-4 victory over No. 14 Riverside to complete the series sweep over the Tigers in the California Community College Softball Southern California Regionals Saturday afternoon at ECC Softball Field.

Reed went 3-for-3 at the dish with a double and two RBIs for the Warriors (36-6) while also holding the Tigers (18-22) to three runs, two earned, in four and 1/3 innings pitched, allowing just four hits on the day. Brooke Sarro picked up her third save of the season, tossing two and 1/3 innings of relief while allowing just one run on five hits.

The Warriors jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring four times in the opening frame, all with two outs. Julianne Adamos started the rally with an infield single and then stole second, the Warriors only stolen base of the day.

Alyssa Wing followed with a walk and then Reed stepped in, hitting a double to right to score Wing and Adamos and put the Warriors up 2-0. Kamryn Fisher then singled to left to plate Reed and make it 3-0. Brigid Antonelli then followed with a double of her own, splitting the gap in right-center to score Fisher and cap the scoring, putting ECC up by four early.

The Warriors tacked on to their lead in the ffifth inning as Fisher led off the frame with a walk. Pinch-runner Aleah Lacy advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Antonelli, putting runners at the corners. Jasmine Krauss then reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice, loading the bases for the Warriors.

Pinch-hitter Riah Nunley stepped up for Kattya Calderon and hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Lacy and putting ECC up 5-0.

A wild pitch by Wilcox then allowed Antonelli to score to put the Warriors up 6-0, their final run of the game.

The Tigers did not roll over, though, as they cut the Warriors lead in half in the fifth inning. The Tigers scored one run on an error and then got a two-run single from Kayla Giannatasio to make it 6-3 and put an end to Reed's day in the circle.

Sarro came in to pitch in relief and got the last two outs of the frame to keep the Warriors up by three.

The Tigers would mount on last stand in the seventh, loading the bases with one out on three straight singles. Aeriel Larson flied out for the second out of the inning but Marcelina Arevalo kept the Tigers hopes alive with an infield single to short, making it 6-4.

But Sarro shut the door by getting A'loni Appleton to groundout back to the circle to secure the Warriors their second CCCAA Regional Championship in the last three years.

The Warriors advance to the CCCAA Mount San Antonio College Super Regional, which begins Friday in Walnut, Calif. Joining the Warriors and host Mounties will be Antelope Valley and Cerritos.
