Wing, Reed and Rapoza Earn Top Honors as All-Conference Teams Announced

El Camino College swept the top honors as the 2017 South Coast Conference-South Division All-Conference Teams and Awards were announced on Friday.

Shortstop Alyssa Wing was named the SCC South Player of the Year while Haley Reed earned SCC Pitcher of the Year honors. Head coach Jessica Rapoza was named the 2017 SCC South Coach of the Year.

The Warriors also had four players named to the SCC All Conference Teams along with an honorable mention as sophomores Brigid Antonelli and Raelani Camez each earned their second straight first-team nods while freshmen Ashley Machado and Julianne Adamos were named to the second team. Kamryn Fisher was named Honorable Mention.

Rapoza led the Warriors to a 34-6 overall record as the Warriors ran the table in conference, going 12-0 in the SCC-South and becoming the first team to go unbeaten in the SCC since Mount San Antonio College in 2013.

Under Rapoza, the Warriors became the ninth team in SCC history to finish conference play undefeated and the second ECC squad to do so. The 1989 Warriors won the SCC crown with a 15-0 conference record. Cerritos went undefeated (20-0) in conference play in 1978 while Long Beach has gone unbeaten in SCC play five times (1993, 1996-97, 1999, 2001).

The Warriors also won 24 straight games during the season, stretching from March 4 through April 18; marking the longest such streak in program history.

Wing put together an outstanding season in her inaugural campaign at ECC, batting at SCC-South Division best .491 while playing all 40 games during the year. She scored 38 runs, hit 12 doubles, three triples and three home runs to go with 40 RBIs. She led the Warriors with 14 multi-RBI games and tied for the team season high with an 11-game hitting streak. Wing's 82 assists on defense also led the SCC-South Division.

Reed made 29 appearances in the circle for the Warriors in 2017, making 23 starts. She posted a 16-4 overall record, leading the SCC-South in victories and tossed 141 and 2/3 innings, which ranked second in the division.

Antonelli batted .383 in 39 games played for the Warriors. She tied for second on the team with nine doubles and five triples while driving in 31 runs and scoring 32. She was third on the team with 14 stolen bases and posted an 11-game hitting streak during the season.

Camez was a spark plug for the Warriors, batting leadoff in 37 of the Warriors 40 games this season. She batted .442 in 38 games this season and was second in the division and on the team with 32 stolen bases. She led the team and was second in the SCC-South with 52 runs scored and led the division with 10 triples on the year. Camez also recorded an 11-game hitting streak during the year and led the team with 15 multi-hit games including a four-hit performance. Camez reached base safely in 23 straight games at one point, tops on the team.

Machado had a stellar freshman season for ECC and proved to be versatile while handling the pitching staff for the bulk of the year. Machado made 31 of her 40 starts at catcher while splitting the other five starts at all three outfield positions. She the team and the SCC-South with 37 stolen bases and batted .426 on the season, driving in 34 runs. Machado scored 37 runs and led the team with 22 walks and a .571 on-base percentage.

Adamos was tied for second on the team with 14 multi-hit games and batted .472 on the season with two home runs and 31 RBI.

Lastly, Fisher earned Honorable Mention after leading the Warriors with six home runs and 44 RBI. She batted .441 in 37 games. She recorded 10 doubles and one triple in her sophomore campaign.
