Warriors End Regular Season with Doubleheader Sweep Over Cerritos

NORWALK, Calif. – El Camino College wrapped up the 2017 regular season with a pair of victories over Cerritos College Tuesday afternoon at Nancy Kelly Field.

GAME 1: ECC 16, Cerritos 0 (F/5)

A continuation of their rain-shortened game on March 21, the Warriors began the day with a 7-0 lead over the Falcons as the third inning began and did not let up en route to a 16-0 romp over the Falcons in the first action of the day. First baseman Kamryn Fisher did much of the damage, hitting two home runs including a grand slam, driving in six RBI for the game. Julianne Adamos went 1-for-2 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI as the Warriors pounded out 15 hits for the game as Haley Reed and Brooke Sarro combined to toss five shutout innings, allowing just four hits against the Falcons.

GAME 2: ECC 12, Cerritos 6

The regularly schedule matchup between the Warriors and Falcons started much differently for ECC. Ashley Machado got the Warriors on the board first, blasting a home run to right field to put ECC up 1-0 early.

But the Falcons scored the next four runs to take the lead after three innings. Kylee Brown hit a two-run double in the first to give the Falcons the lead and then Briana Lopez singled to left in the second to plate Emma Wolff and give the Falcons a 3-1 lead. A Kristen Voller RBI-single in the third made it 4-1 before the Warriors responded in the fourth.

Alyssa Wing started the rally with a double and then advanced to third on Reed's single. Wing would score on an attempted double steal with Reed getting erased at second. With two outs and none on, Fisher singled to right and then Brigid Antonelli followed with a walk to start another threat for the Warriors.

Pinch-hitter Riah Nunley came through, doubling in Wing and then Antonelli scored on a throwing error to tie the game 4-4.

The Falcons answered in their half of the fourth as Kimberly Olivas led off with a walk. Lopez then stepped in and hit a two-run homer to put Cerritos back on top, 6-4.

But that was the last bit of offense for the Falcons while the Warriors scored in every inning after the third, including a four-run fifth and three-run sixth to retake the lead and put the game out of reach.

Wing finished the day with two hits, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI while Adamos went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI.

Sarro scored the victory in the circle, pitching three and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just three hits and two walks.

The Warriors finish the season undefeated in South Coast Conference play, becoming the first team to finish conference play unbeaten since Mount San Antonio in 2013. The Warriors are the ninth team in SCC history to finish conference play undefeated and the second ECC squad to do so. The 1989 Warriors won the SCC crown with a 15-0 conference record. Cerritos went undefeated (20-0) in conference play in 1978 while Long Beach has gone unbeaten in SCC play five times (1993, 1996-97, 1999, 2001).

The Warriors will find out their seeding and playoff matchup when the California Community College Athletics Association releases the playoffs schedule on Saturday.
