Camez, Machado, Calderon Have Big Days as Warriors Beat Cerritos for 19th Straight Win

TORRANCE, Calif. – Ashley Machado recorded her second three-hit game of the season and No. 6 El Camino College continued to roll, scoring its 19th straight win with an 8-2 decision over Cerritos Thursday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Machado went 3-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI for the Warriors (28-5, 7-0) while Raelani Camez was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Kattya Calderon went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Haley Reed tossed her ninth complete game of the season and picked up her 12th victory in the circle as she held the Falcons (22-10, 4-3) to two runs on five hits. She walked two and struck out a season-high five batters on the day.

Jissel Caballero picked up the loss for the Falcons despite tossing a complete game. She surrendered eight runs, four earned, on 12 hits. She walked one and struck out five.

The Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning after Calderon lined a double past third base with two runners on. Kamryn Fisher and Reed both scored to give ECC a 2-0 lead. Ronni Silas then stepped up and laid down a bunt. Caballero threw to first but Silas beat the throw and the ball popped out of first baseman Kristen Voller's mitt. Calderon capitalized on the error and took off for the plate, making it safely to put the Warriors up by three after two frames.

The Falcons got a run back in the third as Caballero helped her own cause, lining a single up the middle to score Kimberly Olivas, who doubled prior to that.

Each team would add a run to make it 4-2 by the bottom of the fifth inning when the Warriors got two more runs on a sacrifice fly to left field from Julianne Adamos and another on an error in left field.

They put the game away in the sixth as Camez smashed a two-out triple to right field over Lesley Briseno's head. Jasmine Krauss, who singled to lead off the inning, scored easily and then Machado followed with a single through the right side to drive in Camez to make it 8-2.

Reed closed the door in the seventh, striking out the first two batters before inducing a weak come-backer to the circle for the third out to secure the Warriors state-best 19th consecutive victory.

The Warriors remained undefeated and hold a two-game lead over second-place Long Beach City, which defeated ECC Compton Center on Thursday afternoon.

ECC returns to action on April 11 when the Warriors host ECC Compton Center at the ECC Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
