Warriors Claim 17th Straight Win

TORRANCE, Calif. – Kassandra Hernandez drove in a pair of runs and Brooke Sarro tossed a complete game as El Camino College defeated Rio Hondo 11-3 in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

The Warriors (26-5) stole seven bases on the day to extend their program best winning streak to 17 games. It was also their eighth victory via run-rule during the streak. Eight different Warriors tallied at least one hit against the Roadrunners (7-21) and Sarro did the rest, allowing just three runs, two earned in six innings of work to pick up her 12th victory of the season in the circle.

The Warriors took the lead in the first after Ashley Machado led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored after a throwing error by the catcher.

They would break the game open in the second as Brigid Antonelli singled to left to plate Jazmyn Sancen, who led off the frame with a triple down the right-field line. Antonelli would steal second and scored on a single by Hernandez. Machado would hit a sacrifice fly and Raylauni Jones added an RBI groundout to cap off the four-run inning for the Warriors and they never looked back.

The Roadrunners did hold off the run-rule in the fifth as they scored three times in the frame on RBI singles from Sarah Hauffen-Salgado and Jelissa Castanon along with a squeeze bunt from Alicia Olivas.

But the Warriors answered with one in the bottom of the fifth and then got an RBI single from Rylee Rehders in the bottom of the sixth and a game-ending sacrifice fly from Jasmine Krauss to seal the victory.

The Warriors will not head to East Los Angeles on Wednesday for a non-conference affair to make up for their originally scheduled Feb. 21 game that was postponed due to rain.
