Wing Tallies Seven Hits as Warriors Sweep Doubleheader from Citrus

TORRANCE, Calif. – Shortstop Alyssa Wing capped a seven-run comeback with the game-winning sacrifice fly in game one and then tallied four hits in game two as No. 3 El Camino College swept No. 6 Citrus in a doubleheader Friday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

The two victories extended the Warriors (25-5) winning streak to 16 games, the longest in ECC softball recorded history.

GAME ONE: ECC 12, Citrus 11

Things looked bleak for the Warriors in game one as the Owls used a five-run fifth inning to take what seemed to be a commanding 10-3 advantage with just nine outs left for the ECC. But the Warriors responded with three runs in their half of the fifth and then tied it at 10 with four runs in the sixth.

But the Owls took advantage of a Warriors error in the seventh to plate the go-ahead run on an RBI single with the bases loaded to make it 11-10. Brooke Sarro, who entered the game in relief, then got out of the one-out, bases loaded jam by getting Valerie Ortiz to line out to Kamryn Fisher at first base, who then stepped on the bag to double up  Martinez and get the Warriors out of the inning with just one run to overcome.

With one out, Jasmine Krauss singled up the middle and then Raelani Camez reached on an error at second base, allowing Krauss to get to third and Camez to take second. Ashley Machado was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and Julianne Adamos tied the game with a grounder to third base. Krauss beat the throw home to score the tying run and then Wing, who was 3-for-3 with one RBI at that point, stepped in and lined out to right field. Camez tagged up and scored easily, capping the comeback and giving the Warriors the win in a wild game one.

GAME TWO: ECC 12, Citrus 4 (6 innings)

Wing continued her torrid hitting in the second game, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Fisher went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Haley Reed was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Reed also got the job done on the mound, picking up her ninth win as she tossed six innings for the Warriors.

The Warriors pounced early this time around, scoring five times in the first inning to take a big lead. But, as they did in game one, the Owls bats responded in the second inning with three runs thanks to a two-run double by Jacquelyn Preciado and an RBI single by Martinez.

They added another run in the fourth to cut the Warriors lead to one before ECC put up another five-spot in the fourth inning, getting some help from shaky defense by the Owls as all five runs were unearned. Camez and Wing each had RBI singles while Fisher's bunt single with two on resulted in a throwing error by the catcher that allowed three runs to score and put ECC up 10-4.

The Warriors finished off the Owls in the sixth as Reed doubled to the wall to score Wing and then Fisher singled through the right side to plate pinch-runner Aleah Lacy from second to make it 12-4.

ECC returns to action Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field as they host Rio Hondo at 3 p.m.
