Big Innings Propel Warriors to Ninth Straight Win

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College used two big innings to collect their ninth straight win, defeating Long Beach City 9-0 in five innings Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

The Warriors (18-5, 3-0) only scored in the second and fourth innings but put up crooked numbers in both to down the Vikings (11-11, 1-1). Brigid Antonelli went 2-for-2 with two triples and three RBIs to lead the Warriors offense while Haley Reed cruised for four innings, picking up her sixth victory of the season in the circle. She allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out one while facing just two batters over the minimum.

Brooke Sarro tossed one inning of relief for ECC, allowing one hit and striking out one.

The Warriors jumped out in front in the second inning as Alyssa Wing led off with a walk and then swiped second base. Haley Reed followed with a single to left-center to plate Wing and give ECC the 1-0 lead. Kamryn Fisher then stepped in and singled to right field, putting runners on first and second for the Warriors.

After a strikeout, Fisher and Reed pulled off the double steal to get two runners in scoring position for Antonelli, who promptly cleared the bases with a triple to the fence in right-center field to put the Warriors up 3-0.

It stayed that way until the fourth when the Warriors broke the game wide open. Ronni Silas started things off with a one-out walk and subsequently scored on Antonelli's second triple of the day. Raelani Camez followed with a triple of her own to plate Antonelli and put the Warriors up 5-0.

Ashley Machado then stepped in and was hit by a pitch. Then with Julianne Adamos up, Machado broke for second. Vikings catcher Samantha Ontiveros fired to second where Elvia Soulliere came up to catch the ball and then fired to third trying to back-pick Camez. But Soulliere's throw sailed over third and Camez came in to score on the error while Machado took third.

Adamos then doubled to plate Machado and make it 7-0 and the Warriors would add two more in the inning to go up by nine.

Sarro then came in and shut the door on the Vikings to give ECC its ninth straight win and third in South Coast Conference play.

The Warriors will return to action Thursday afternoon on the road at Rio Hondo. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
