Camez, Reed Help Warriors Overcome Early Deficit to Trounce East Los Angeles

TORRANCE, Calif. – Haley Reed tossed a six-inning complete-game and Raelani Camez drove in three runs as El Camino College recorded its fifth straight win with a 10-2 victory over East Los Angeles in six innings Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

The Warriors (14-5, 2-0) fell behind early to the Huskies (11-9, 0-2) after ELAC got a pair in the opening frame thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Mone'T Manning and Madalyn Roberts with the bases loaded. But Reed got a groundout to settle down after that and allowed just three hits in the final five frames to pick up her fourth victory of the season.

"I knew we were going to score runs," Reed said about giving up two runs early. "I know we can hit so that just makes me feel more confident out in the circle."

Camez helped get one of those runs back early as she led off the Warriors first with a triple and then walked home on a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Wing. Camez would finish the day with with three hits including a pair of triples while Reed also excelled at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Warriors took the lead for good in the second after Kattya Calderon tied the game with a sacrifice fly and then Camez came up with a bunt single to score Brigid Antonelli to put ECC up 3-2.

Camez would break the game open in the fourth inning as she belted her second triple of the afternoon to right-center field to empty the bases and put the Warriors up 5-2.

"I was just looking for that pitch down the middle," Camez said. "I was just looking for that inside and down the middle and I just crushed it."

In the sixth inning and leading by six, Ronni Silas laid down a bunt toward third and raced down the first-base line for a single, scoring Reed from third base. Destiny Avena's throw then sailed into foul territory, allowing Jasmine Krauss to come in from second base with the winning run, giving the Warriors a run-rule victory.

The Warriors will now hit the road on Thursday afternoon to face L.A. Harbor on Thursdsay afternoon.
