Warriors Open Conference With Big Win over ECC Compton Center

TORRANCE, Calif. – Brooke Sarro shined in the circle and Jasmine Krauss was perfect at the plate as El Camino College routed El Camino College – Compton Center, 12-0, in the South Coast Conference opener Tuesday afternoon at the El Camino College Softball Field.

The Warriors (13-5, 1-0) went wild on the base paths, swiping 14 bases on the day including five steals from Raelani Camez while Sarro shut down the Tartars offense. The Warriors hurler tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits as she retired the first nine batters she faced. Sarro struck out seven and did not allow a walk on the day.

Camez walked twice and scored two runs for the Warriors, getting El Camino on the board in the bottom of the first after drawing a leadoff walk. She then stole second and swiped third base for good measure before a sacrifice fly from Ashley Machado plated her for a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors broke it open in the second, scoring four times on just one hit thanks to some free passes and more aggressiveness on the bases. Krauss led off the inning with a walk and then stole second. After a groundout, Krauss too third base and then came in to score in a sacrifice fly from Kassandra Hernandez.

With two outs, the Warriors mounted a rally after Brigid Antonelli walked and followed her teammates' lead, swiping second and third. Camez walked to put runners at the corners and then attempted to go to second. On the play, Antonelli broke for home and scored while Camez took second. Once again, Camez swiped third base before Machado drew another walk.

The Warriors employed the same strategy as Machado led off first to draw a throw. On the ensuing pickle, Camez broke for home and scored while Machado advanced to second base.

Alyssa Wing was hit by a pitch and then Haley Reed singled to left field to score Machado and cap off the big inning for El Camino.

That was all Sarro would need as she allowed just one hit in the fourth and two in the fifth to collect the victory.

The Warriors return to action Wednesday afternoon as they host East Los Angeles at the ECC Softball Field with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
