Men’s Water Polo Falls to Chaffey

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College overcame an early hole but ran out of gas late as it fell to Chaffey, 18-11, in a South Coast Conference contest Monday afternoon at the ECC Pool.

Matthew Thorne led the Warriors with three goals on the day, two of them coming in a dynamic second quarter for ECC that saw the team score seven straight goals to erase an 8-1 deficit.

With 5:53 left in the first half, Kyle McClanahan scored for the Panthers to make it 8-1. That's when the Warriors made their move, scoring seven straight times to tie things up. Thorne logged the first two goals of the rally with Aidan Morvice scoring with 3:03 left to make it 8-4.

Sam Waters then found the back of the net for the first of his two goals in the period and then Ikaika Napohaku scored to make it 8-6.

The Warriors then utilized the power play to end the run, getting power-play goals from Waters and Nestor Ramirez to knot things up 8-8 as the teams went to halftime.

But the Warriors offense struggled in the second half, getting outscored 10-3 in the final two periods en route to a loss.

The Warriors will return to action Friday at the Santa Monica Tournament where they will face Fullerton and the host Corsairs.
