El Camino College started things off with a victory at the South Coast Conference Championships Thursday morning before falling in the final match of the day.

ECC 12, Chaffey 11

The Warriors overcame a three-goal first-quarter deficit to edge the Panthers in the first game of the day. The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first before Nate Griffith scored his first of five goals on the day to get ECC on the board.

The Panthers led 4-1 after one and 6-5 at the half but the Warriors outscored Chaffey 7-5 in the final two quarters. The Warriors trailed 11-9 with 5:35 left but Matthew Thorne scored two straight goals to tie things up with 2:08 left and then Griffith notched the game-winner with 1:13 left in the game to push the Warriors to a win.

Thorne finished with two goals in the match and Ryan Winkler also added two. Nicholas Elias made 12 saves in the win.

Long Beach City 20, ECC 6

Thorne led the Warriors with three goals in the second match of the day but the Vikings had too much firepower as seven players recorded multi-goal games for LBCC. The Warriors fell behind 4-0 after one and trailed 9-1 at the half and never got close. Elias made 11 saves in the loss.
