Thorne and Griffith Lead Warriors to Day One Sweep at Saddleback Tournament

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Matthew Thorne and Nate Griffith lit up the scoreboard Friday afternoon as the El Camino College men's water polo team score a pair of victories over Merced and Diablo Valley on day one of the Saddleback Tournament.

In game one, the Warriors doubled up Merced, 12-6, thanks to four goals and four assists from Thorne. Jonas Fahrney added three goals and Griffith scored two goals to go along with two assists. Joaquin Vargas, Jason Gottschalk and Deshawn Roberts also added goals while Kyle Thorne and Ian Pallares had an assist apiece.

Goalie Nicholas Elias made 17 saves on 23 shots faced and also added one assist in the victory.

In the second match, the Warriors defeated Diablo Valley 14-10 thanks to five goals from Griffith and 11 saves from Elias. Thorne added three goals and dished out a team-high four assists while Fahrney and Pallares each scored a pair of goals. Gottschalk dished out three assists in the victory.

The Warriors will return to action Saturday for the final two matches of the tournament as they face Las Positas and Modesto.
