Bio

Kurt Peters will be the intterim head coach for men's volleyball in 2023 after 16 years as the assistant head coach at El Camino. He joined Richard Blount's coaching staff in 2006. 

He was an All - CIF selection as an outside hitter in 1996 for a Mira Costa team that was both CIF and National Champions. In 1998 and 1999 he was named ‘First Team’ All South Coast Conference as a setter here at El Camino College. He went on to start as a libero and back up setter at then Division I, Loyola Marymount University. He earned a degree in History while there and a Master's Degree from Azusa Pacific University. 

An established beach player he held a ‘Triple A’ beach rating from 1999-2003. Peters can still be found on the beach playing competitively and at certain beach tournaments. His beach 6-man team, El Gringo is among the elite teams in the South Bay, winning the Charlie Saikley Six Man Open in 2007.  They earned a respectable 3rd place finish in 2009. 

Peters stays busy with many jobs in volleyball and the recreational field. His many jobs include the Parks and Recreation Department in Manhattan Beach where he runs the Beach Volleyball classes, a Tournament Director for the California Beach Volleyball Association, a club volleyball coach for both boys and girls, and a surf instructor with 'Camp Surf and the Jimmy Miller Foundation.                                   

Coach Peters' family has a long history of playing volleyball and have all been a part of the El Camino family. His sister Dana was also an All - South Coast Conference player in 2000-1 at El Camino College and went on to play at Chapman University where she tied a school record for kills in a match at 27. His father, Bill attended El Camino in 1971-2; Bill has since retired with 29 years in the Los Angeles County fire department while his mother, Nina is a retired librarian for the city of Hermosa Beach.   

Peters' grandfather Bill Sr. also attended El Camino and was the first Athlete-Of-The-Year in 1947-8, as a member of the football, basketball, swim & diving and track teams. Bill Sr. was a physical education teacher, football coach and athletic director at Inglewood high school for over 30 years. He was elected into the El Camino College Hall of Fame in 2000.

Peters' is married to Jamie who was on the US National Gymnastics Team from 1989-1993 and are the proud parents of Marlow and Cruz.
