Warriors Win Fifth Straight Match

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College recorded its fifth straight victory Wednesday night with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 31-29) non-conference sweep over Santiago Canyon at the ECC South Gym.

Matthew Donatucci led the Warriors (8-3) with 14 kills on 31 swings with a .258 attacking percentage. Tory Ellis added 10 kills and Benjamin Crocker pitched in with nine kills and a .400 attacking percentage. Joseph Sico and Noah Riley dished out a combined 45 assists and set the Warriors to a collective .278 attack percentage.

The match featured 21 ties and nine lead changes with the Warriors overcoming a pair of deficits in the second and third sets to secure the sweep.

In the second, the Warriors trailed 19-14 before mounting a surge, scoring 11 of the final 14 points in the frame to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the final set, the Warriors held a four-point lead before the Hawks ran off nine of the next 10 points to take a 19-15 advantage. The Warriors would answer with six of the next eight to tie things up at 21 and then the teams went back and forth, trading points with the Warriors fighting off six set points. Finally, the Warriors were able to string three straight points on a pair of kills from Ellis and one final one from Donatucci to record the victory.

The Warriors will return to conference action on Friday night as they travel to L.A. Trade Tech.
