Medina, Campos Lead No. 7 Warriors to Road Win at No. 4 Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Sophomores Cesar Medina and Pedro Campos each logged double-doubles Friday night as No. 7 El Camino College took down No. 4 Santa Monica 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-22) on the road in a Western State Conference-South Division match.

Medina tallied a team-high 24 kills to go along with 15 digs for the Warriors (8-5, 2-0) while Campos dished out 45 assists and added 12 digs in the victory over the Corsairs (11-3, 0-2).

PJ Tulikihihfo slammed down 14 kills along with eight digs and Victor Villarreal added four kills with a team-high four blocks on the night. Campos had all but four of the Warriors helpers, setting the team to a .363 (55-14-113) attacking percentage. Christopher Phanngam added six kills and 13 digs, part of a collective effort that recorded 63 digs defensively.

The victory was the Warriors first win over Santa Monica since Feb. 28, 2014, which included a loss in the 2015 CCCAA State Championship match.

The Warriors return to action on Friday night as they host Long Beach City at the ECC South Gym with the match set to get started at 6 p.m. Both teams are tied atop the WSC-South Division standings with a 2-0 conference mark.
