Alexander to Represent USA at 2017 World University Games

Former El Camino College track and field standout Justin Alexander will represent the United States in the 2017 World University Games, which will be held in Taipei City, Taiwan from August 19 through August 30.
Alexander will be a part of a USA track and field squad that includes the University of Houston track and field team and will be coached by Cougars head coach Leroy Burrell.
The USA Track and Field team will begin competition on Aug. 23 and run through Aug. 28 at Taipei Stadium.
Alexander had an outstanding season in his sophomore campaign at El Camino College in 2017. He finished second at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships with a time of 51.60 in the 400m hurdles, just behind Quincy Hall, the community college national leader this season, who finished in 50.57 to take the state title.
That came after Alexander set numerous ECC top marks all season and took home the Southern California Title in the 400m with a time of 52.96. He also earned the South Coast Conference Athlete of the Year in 2017, winning the conference title in the 400m hurdles and finishing second as part of the ECC 4x400m relay team.
Alexander recently committed to continue his collegiate career at the University of Arizona.
The World University Games, known around the world as Universiade, is an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation. The Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival staged every two years in a different city around the world, representing both winter and summer competitions. It is second only in importance to the Olympic Games.
The opening ceremony for the 29th Universiade will be held Aug. 19, 2017, at Taipei Stadium, where the Cougars will compete in their track & field events. The United States will also have teams represented in archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, men's soccer, swimming, water polo, diving, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting and wushu.
