Warriors Show Well at UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. – El Camino College competed against NCAA Division I competition over the weekend and fared well.
The weekend kicked off on Friday for the Warriors with the javelin. Nicole Clark placed second overall in the javelin, posting a new personal best with a state-leading 145-4 mark.
On Saturday, the Warriors returned to action and posted a number of excellent marks including a number of ECC All-Time Top-10 performances over the course of the day.
Justin Alexander finished second overall in the 400 meter Hurdles, posting a new personal best with a 51.70, which also set a new state-leading mark. The performance also moved Alexander into the No. 5 spot on the ECC All-Time Top-10 performer list.
In addition to Alexander's showing, Alex Castro placed sixth with a time of 55.31.
In the men's 400 meter relay race, the Warriors placed third overall with a time of 41.67 while the 1600 meter relay team placed fifth overall with a time of 3:18.96.
In other results, Damien Bernard placed sixth overall in the long jump with a mark of 21-4 while Israel Cardona ran a new personal best in the 1500 meter race.
On the women's side, Yazmine Alexander placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5-3, moving herself into ECC royalty as she claimed the No. 5 overall mark in the ECC All-Time Top 10 performer list.
In the 800 meter race, Victoria Porter placed fifth overall with a season-best 2:19.62, a race which was won by ECC alumnus Crystal Lizaola of UC Irvine.
In the women's 100 meter hurdles, Shukura Tyler finished sixth overall with a time of 14.75, vaulting her to the No. 9 mark on the ECC All-Time Top-10 performer list.
The women's 1600 meter relay team of Sierra Peterson, Shukura Tyler, Ivery Cody and Proctor ran a 4:01.00 to place fifth overall.
