Davis, Vasquez and Nonaka’s Conference Championships Run Comes to End

El Camino College saw its singles and doubles hopes for a conference championship come to an end Friday as every Warriors competitor fell on day two of the Western State Conference Championships at Cerritos College.

Connor Davis was the lone singles player to advance to day two but suffered a loss to Kent Hunter of Cerritos, 6-0, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

In the doubles competition, the duo of Riku Nonaka and Trey Vasquez lost their semifinals contest to the team of Kent Hunter and Victor Castro of Cerritos in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Trey Vasquez qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in Ojai, Calif. with a pair of back draw victories including a win over teammate Nonaka in the final match.

The state championships are set to begin April 27.
