Warriors Defeat Orange Coast In Second Round of Playoffs

TORRANCE, Calif. -  The No.4 seeded El Camino College Warriors defeated the No.5 seeded Orange Coast College 4-1 on Tuesday night in the second round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs at Murdock Field.

The Warriors advance to Saturday's CCCAA Southern California Regionals Third Round. They will face the top seeded team, #1 Mt. Sac.  The Mounties will host the Warriors at a time yet to be determined.  The Warriors drew with Mt. Sac 1-1 on Tuesday, November 5th in the regular season home opener.

The Warriors dominated the play for most of the game and even got the ball in the back of the net first on a shot by Homer Santos in the 13th minute.  However, the goal was negated by an offsides call.  

It was the Pirates who took the first lead in the game in the 22nd minute of the game.  Julian Madrigal found himself the recipient of a corner kick by Jesus Flores and was able to put it past Luis Garibay for the first goal of the game. 

The Warriors equalized in the 35th minute of the game.  Alvin Perez hit a free kick from 20 yards out. Kalyl Silva flick headed the ball over the defense to Oliver Diaz near the endline.  He was able to direct it past the keeper into the far corner to make it 1-1.

The Warriors scored three goals within the first 12 minutes of the second half to finish off the game.  

Oliver Diaz scored his second goal of the game in the 48th minute.  Melvyn Perez-Cortez threw in the ball from far sideline to Steven Fernandez.  His header found Oliver Diaz in the 6-yard box and Diaz was able to put it into the net to make it 2-1.

Two minutes later, the Warriors scored again to make it 3-1. Alvin Perez sent a beautiful ball in on a corner kick to Melvyn Perez-Cortez.  Perez-Cortez's perfectly timed header rocketed into the goal to make it 3-1.

Kalyl Silva finished off the game with a beautiful shot from 45-yards out in the 57th minute.  Silva got the ball off a turnover by the Pirates and spotted the coast keeper out of position. Silva blasted a shot from 45-yards out into the net to seal the 4-1 victory over the Warriors. 

The Warriors outshot the Pirates 15-8 for the game.  They had 9 shots on goal. The Pirates had 4 shots on goal.  Luis Garibay made three saves for the game.
