Perez-Cortez Hat Trick Leads Warriors Over Tartars

COMPTON, Calif. - Melvyn Perez-Cortez had a career day on the pitch Friday afternoon at Compton after grabbing his first collegiate hat-trick in a 4-0 win over the Tartars.

The win was a big boost for the Warriors (10-1-4, 3-1-3) in the South Coast Conference standings.  The Warriors now have 12 points and move ahead of Long Beach (11 points) into third place heading into the final match day.  

The Warriors outshot the Tartars (4-8-5, 0-4-3) 17 shots to 9 shots.  The Warriors had 10 shots on goal compared to the Tartars five shots on goal.  Juan Montes started in net for the Warriors and picked up his second clean sheet in a row.  Montes made five saves for the game. The defense has now kept eight clean sheets for the season.  

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute.  Oliver Diaz assisted Melvyn Perez-Cortez for his first goal of the game. Melvyn Perez-Cortez added his second and third goals in the 52nd and 72nd minute.

Homer Santos added a fourth goal for the Warriors in the 84th minute.

The Warriors are now set up for a showdown with the Mt. Sac Mounties to finish out the regular season.  The Mounties are the No. 1 Team in the NJCAA DIII polls, the No.1 Team in the CCCSIA polls, and the No. 1 team in the South Coast Conference.  The final match will be played on Tuesday, November 5th at 7:30 PM inside of Murdock Stadium.
