Perez-Cortez’s Double Keeps Warriors Rolling Past Norco

TORRANCE, Calif. - Melvyn Perez-Cortez scored a goal in both halves as the Warriors defeated the visiting Norco College Mustangs 2-0 at home on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors remain unbeaten and moved to 4-0-1 on the season and are on pace for their best start since the 2004 season.

The Warriors outshot the Mustangs (3-1) 22 shots to 12 shots for the game.  The Warriors had eight shots on goal to the Mustangs two shots on goal. Luis Garibay made two saves for the game and the strong defense has continued to not allow a non-penalty goal all season.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the 40th minute of the game.  They had a free kick from just inside the 50-yard line. Jorge Alvarenga sent a ball into the box that a defender headed into the air.  Homer Santos headed the ball up to Melvyn Perez-Cortez who blasted the ball into the net from the top of the box into the lower left corner past the Norco keeper to put the Warriors up 1-0.

The Warriors doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the 85th minute off another Perez-Cortez goal.  Jonathan Guardado took the corner kick and sent a ball to right inside the 6-yard box. Melvyn Perez-Cortez had a header saved by a defender on the line that should've been whistled for a hand ball but Perez-Cortez sent the rebound into the net to score his third goal of the season.

The Warriors will now head to Moorpark College for an away fixture on Friday, September 13th.  Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM after the women's game.
