Warriors Offense Comes Alive in Win Over Chaffey

TORRANCE, Calif. - After being shut out for the past two games, the Warriors scored three goals in a 3-1 win over Chaffey College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors (6-5-4) took a lead in the 38th minute and led for the entire game after that over the Panthers (8-6-2).

Kevin Negrete led the Warriors with a brace for his 4th and 5th goals of the season.  Daquan Dawkins scored his first goal of the season to cap off the victory for the Warriors.

In the 38th minute, the Warriors took the lead off a Negrete goal.  Jean-Pierre Dejean Macksa took on two defenders on the left side and was able to get deep inside the box to open up space for Negrete, and Macksa passed the ball to an open Negrete who slotted the ball into the net to put the Warriors up 1-0.

Right at the start of the second half, Kevin Negrete doubled his goal total.  Jose Hernandez's pass found Negrete deep inside the 18-yard box on the right side and Negrete rifled a shot into the upper 90 far post to put the Warriors up 2-0.

Things got nervy for the Warriors after Jean-Pierre Dejean Macksa was issued a straight red card in the 53rd minute.  The Panthers pressure on the Warrior defense eventually led to Oscar Casillas-Palomar scoring his 8th goal of the season in the 72nd minute.

However, the Panthers left themselves open to a counter-atttack and the Warriors capitalized on the moment in the 81st minute.  Eduardo Grados made a long run on the left side of the field and was able to find a streaking Daquan Dawkins who easily slotted the ball past the keeper for his first goal of the season and the put the Warriors ahead 3-1.

A Chaffey defender, Miguel Huerta was issued two yellow cards successively in the 85th and 86th minute and that effectively put away any chance the Panthers had at drawing level in the game.

Brandon Cardenas started in goal for the Warriors and made four saves.

The Warriors will look to keep the offense flowing at home when they take on Long Beach City College on Friday, October 26th.  When they last met in September to open up conference play, the Warriors drew 2-2- with the Vikings. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Friday.
