Men’s Soccer Blanked in Home Opener

TORRANCE, Calif.  El Camino College were defeated 2-0 against Santa Monica College on friday afternoon in their home opener.

The Warriors (1-1) conceded a goal in each half against the Corsairs (2-0).   El Camino was outshot 18-11 by Santa Monica and conceded 9 shots on goal vs their 2 shots on goal.  

The Corsairs jumped to an early lead in the first half after a goal from Yoel Cohavy.   Eto Atiabet dribbled the ball into the box and laid it off to Narciso Cervantes whose ball found an open Yoel Cohavy and he slotted it into the net for the Corsairs.  

Oliver Diaz had the best chance at scoring for the Warriors in the game.  He had a header cleared off the line from the Santa Monica defense that prevented the Warriors from equalizing in the first half.  

The Corsairs would double their advantage in the second half when Narciso Cervantes passed a ball to the top of the box to Eto Atiabet who blasted the ball into the net from outside the box.  

It was a chippy affair between both teams as there was 43 combined fouls and 4 yellows card issued.  Santa Monica had 25 fouls to El Camino's 18 fouls in the game.

This will be the last home game for the Warriors for a month.  They will be on the road for the next five games before returning home to face LA Harbor College on Friday, September 28th.
