Warriors Comeback Effort Falls Short against Glendale

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College's comeback attempt fell short against Glendale Community College as the Warriors lost 2-1 to the Vaqueros on Tuesday afternoon at Murdock Stadium. 

Despite the Warriors (1-2-1) outshooting the Vaqueros (1-2-0) 21-7 and having more corners 9-2, it was Glendale Community College's precision that made the difference. 

The Warriors conceded an early goal in the 6^th minute against Glendale Community College.  A 6^th minute foul set up a free kick for the Vaqueros and Fabricio Bonilla scored the free kick from 20 yards out.

The Warriors' best chance to score in the first half came when Brian Burrell found himself in a "1v1" situation with the Vaquero goalkeeper in the 39^th minute, but his attempt would go wide left.

It was a chippy affair between both sides with 27 fouls committed between both teams.  The Vaqueros had 17 fouls compared to ECC's 10 fouls.

Midway through the second half Glendale added another goal to their advantage when Kento Nakajima played a through ball through the El Camino defense to Luis Cervantes who slotted the ball near the left post past goalkeeper Hector Gutierrez's outstretched hands.

El Camino's offense was spirited after conceding the second goal as they fired 11 shots in the last twelve minutes of play.  Their play was finally rewarded in the 78^th minute when Cristian Guevara was able to break the Vaquero defense with a deflected goal.   Gregory Natt's initial shot on goal was redirected by Guevara, who slotted it past the Glendale Community College goalkeeper Ahmed Ibrahim.

As the Warriors looked for an equalizer, the Vaqueros tried slowing down the pace of the game.  Three Vaquero players (Joseph Sandoval, Loai Ibrahim, and Ahmed Ibrahim) were all issued yellow cards within the last 10 minutes of the game for time wasting. 

With momentum on the Warriors side, they were able to blast 8 shots in the final 12 minutes of play, but they fell short of equalizing the game at two goals apiece.

The Warriors will play Irvine Valley College on Friday at 1:00 PM as they look to end their two-game losing streak.
