TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors mens' basketball team defeated the College of the Desert Roadrunners 80-68 on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.
The Warriors (2-3) led for most of the game over the Roadrunners (1-4). The Warriors shot 49.2 % from the field while the Roadrunners shot 46.6% from the field. The Warriors dished out 20 assists on their 31 field goals.
The Warriors had five scorers reach double-digits in scoring. Shamar Carter led all scorers with 20 points on 7-13 shooting and going 6-10 beyond the arc. Billy Ray Barnes had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Vaitai Tuione had 15 points, Aaron Cortes had 10 points, and Chase Williams had 12 points off the bench.
The Warriors led 41-37 heading into the half. The Warriors stretched the lead to double digits midway through the second half. A late surge by the Roadrunners got them within 4 points with 6:02 left to play and the score at 65-61. However, the Warriors went on a 15-7 scoring run to close out the game over the College of the Desert.
The Warriors will remain at home next Wednesday when they take on Southwestern. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
