Reyes Leads the Offense as Warriors Defeat L.A. Southwest

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College led for most of the game and got big contributions from Justin Reyes and Justin Chambers in a 79-73 South Coast Conference, South Division victory over L.A. Southwest Wednesday night at the ECC North Gym.

Reyes scored 24 points in 26 minutes and Chambers added 16 off the bench as the Warriors (5-16, 1-2) scored the win. Terence Clayton provided a big spark off the bench as he poured in 11 points in 21 minutes including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Abdou Gueye led the Cougars with 21 points and nine rebounds as four players scored in double figures in the loss.

The Warriors scored the victory despite getting outrebounded 40-28 in the game. The Cougars were able to stay in the game with 17 offensive rebounds and 21 second-chance points as a result.

But ECC got great efforts from its reserves as the Warriors scored a 41-24 edge in bench scoring for the game. The Warriors also forced 19 turnovers and scored 29 points off the Cougars miscues.

The long-distance game also helped separate the Warriors as they hit 12 3-pointers on the night while the Cougars could only drain four in 18 attempts.

For the game, the Warriors shot 49.1 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from beyond the arc while the Cougars shot 43.5 percent from the field.

The Warriors will hit the road for their next three conference games, beginning Friday night at Long Beach City College. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
