Biglow’s Big Day Not Enough as Warriors Fall to Dons in Double OT

SANTA ANA, Calif. – El Camino College missed a potential game-winning shot as time expired in a 131-130 defeat at the hands of Santa Ana College Saturday night in the final game of the SCC/SAC 2017 TipOff Classic.

Justin Chambers missed a layup as time expired in double overtime after Emmett Rodulfo recorded a steal with six seconds left and trailing by one. The Warriors came down and had one shot but missed and walked away with another tough loss.

Chambers finished the game with 21 points on 8-for-18 shooting and 3-for-9 from three-point range. Troy Biglow led the Warriors with 32 points in 19 minutes off the bench. He hit 9-of-16 from the field and 5-of-9 from distance while draining 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. Justin Reyes had 18 points and Ricky Bryant added 12 points to go with a team-high seven assists.

For the Dons, Keandre Broussard led the way with 32 points on 13-for-17 shooting and Cameron High added 30 points on 11-for-21 shooting. Xavier Gunter scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high 29 rebounds.

The Warriors held the lead at halftime after forcing 16 Dons turnovers in the period and getting nine first-half points from Reyes.

In the second half, the Dons shot 50 percent from the field but the Warriors held a seven-point lead with 2:03 left after a layup from Ahmad Ope-Onilenla made it 104-97. But Santa Ana finished the second half on a 7-0 run to tie things up on a layup from D'Caran Anderson with 31 seconds left.

Both teams had their chances to end it in regulation but Biglow missed a 3-pointer for the Warriors with 24 seconds left and then Jordan Owens missed a 3-pointer for Santa Ana with nine seconds left. The Warriors had a final chance to end things in regulation but Chambers missed a layup with one second left and the teams headed to overtime.

In the first extra period, the Dons took a pair of six-point leads in the period. The Warriors trailed 113-107 with 2:52 left but went on a 6-0 scoring run to tie things up. The Dons took the lead on a free throw with 1:26 left in the first overtime but Omosa Ogunsuyi tied things up with a free throw of his own with 30 seconds left. He would miss the second free throw and neither team could score in the final 30 seconds, sending the game into a second overtime.

The teams were tied 12 times and traded the lead on eight occasions on Saturday night but the Warriors never led in either overtime period.

The Warriors will now take a week-and-a-half off before returning to action on Thursday, Nov. 16 against L.A. Trade Tech in the opening game of the Skip Robinson Classic hosted by Pasadena City College. Tip off for that game is set for 1 p.m.
