Armstead Leads the Offense but Warriors Fall to Santiago Canyon

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Isiah Armstead led seven players that scored in double figures for El Camino College but it was not enough as the Warriors dropped a high-scoring affair, 138-125, to Santiago Canyon in game two of the 2017 SCC/SAC TipOff Tournament hosted by Santiago Canyon and Santa Ana College.

Armstead dropped 22 points on 6-for-14 shooting for the Warriors (0-2) but Santiago Canyon (2-0) shot 69.4 percent from the field and shot 51 free throws on the night to score the victory over ECC.

Antoine Jenkins led all scorers with 39 points and teammate Rodney Henderson dropped 34 points for SCC in the victory.

For the Warriors, Justin Reyes (18), Omosa Ogunsuyi (16), Ricky Bryant (13), Eduardo Murillo (11), Tristan Egans (10) and Justin Chambers (10) all scored in double figures. The Warriors shot 41.6 percent from the field and dished out 25 assists on 42 makes as a team. They also went 20-for-48 (41.7 percent) from beyond the arc with Reyes leading the team with six triples.

The Warriors defense forced 30 turnovers including 18 steals, led by Egans' six steals.

After leading 69-66 at the half, the Warriors opened an 87-82 advantage in the second half. But a 15-2 scoring run for SCC put the Warriors behind 97-89. The Warriors would cut the deficit to two on a couple of occasions but they were never able to get over the hump.

The Warriors will conclude the tournament on Saturday afternoon as they take on Santa Ana at 4 p.m.
