El Camino Men’s Basketball Team Finishes 5th in the Kirby Mannon Pepsi/Wyndham Tournament at College of the Sequoias

VISALIA, Calif. – The El Camino Warriors finished 5th in the Kirby Mannon Pepsi/Wyndham Tournament at the College of Sequoias this past weekend winning two of their three games.

The Warriors faced Ventura College Pirates Friday losing 108-89. Jamal Heckard had 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, but it was not enough to beat the Pirates, who made 64% of their field goal attempts. The Warriors were down 19-4 in the begging of the first half, but started an early run in the second half 56-52. On Saturday, the Warriors beat the Shasta College Knights 81-77, bouncing back after the first round loss. Ahmad Opeonilenla had 22 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes off of the bench. The Warriors had been down most of the game, until they tied the game at 73 off of Che Madrid's 3 point jump shot. The Warriors then took the lead in the 78th minute with a steal by Jamal Heckard and a layup form Keywhon Powns.

The Warriors faced the Pasadena City College Lancers in the consolation championship. Martyre Demarco came off the bench and dropped 30 points in the game. The Warriors were down 40-34 at halftime, but turned it around in the second half scoring 66 points.

El Camino is led by Jamal Heckard who is averaging 19.8 points per game, which is the most in the South Coast-South Conference. The Warriors, 8-2, face Fullerton at home on Wednesday, 12/21 at 5:00pm.
