Warriors Dominate Santa Barbara On the Road

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The No. 15 El Camino College Warriors football team defeated the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros 45-20 on Saturday night at La Playa Field. 

The Warriors (5-2) scored with 3 minutes and 38 seconds left in the first quarter and never looked back the rest of the game to move to 3-1 in the National Northern League Conference Standings.

The Warriors had 504 yards of total offense with 276 coming from the aerial attack and 228 yards coming from the ground.   Dayton Tafoya led the El Camino offense with a very efficient 299 yards on 16-for-23 passing and 4 touchdowns.  Joshua Lorick had two touchdowns on six receptions and 78 yards.  Moses Ross and Lucas Reynoso each caught down a touchdown pass.  Jakai Torres led the ground attack with 118 rush yards on 13 attempts.  Gemini Batimana got the only rushing touchdown on 28 yards and 4 attempts.

The Warriors took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter after a 10-play drive that started at the El Camino 26 yard line.  Dayton Tafoya hit Joshua Lorick for a 7-yard score for their first touchdown connection of the game.

The Warrior made it 14-0 after Tafoya found Moses Ross for a 37 yard touchdown.  However, on the ensuing kick-off, the Vaqueros found the endzone for their first score of the game to halve the lead and make it a 14-7 game.

However, the Warriors would score on their next two drives before the end of the half to take a 28-to-7 lead into halftime.  Dayton Tafoya combined with Lorick for their second touchdown of the game to make it 21-to-7.  After getting the ball back with 1:11 to go in the half.  Tafoya connected on four straight passes including a big 49-yard pass to Bryant Williams to make it a 28-7 game.

The Warriors shutout Santa Barbara in the third quarter while adding 10 more points to the board.  On the Vaqueros first drive of the second half, Abdul Muhammed intercepted Will Doherty and returned it 36 yards to the house to make it a 35-7 game.  In the following Warriors possesion, Cooper Dileva kicked a field goal to make it a 38-7 lead for the Warriors.

The Warriors added their final score of the game to start the 4th quarter.  Gemini Batimana had back-to-back rushes of over 10 yards to make it a 45-7 game. Gabriella De La Cruz kicked the extra point successfully for her first game since the opener against Southwestern.  

The Vaqueros added 13 unanswered points during the 4th quarter when the game was well out of reach.

The Warriors will host Antelope Valley on Saturday October 28th for their next game. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
