Brown Named Defensive Player of the Year as All-League Selections Announced

2022 SCFA All-Central League Team

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomore Lando Brown was named the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Defensive Player of the Year as the All-League teams were announced on Nov. 23.

Brown highlights a list of 12 Warriors who earned postseason recognition with spots on the SCFA All-Central League Team.

The 2022 season was one to remember for Brown as he became the Warriors' all-time leader in both single-season and career sacks. He posted a SCFA-best 17 quarterback sacks during the regular season, five more than the next best player. The mark was also a new Warriors single-season record, eclipsing Daniel Stewart's 2008 record of 15 sacks.

Brown finished with 26 sacks in his two-year career at ECC, which also marked a new Warriors record. The old career mark was also set by Daniel Stewart who posted 23 sacks in his two seasons at ECC (2008-09).

On the season, Brown also finished second on the team with 70 total tackles and first on the squad with 29 tackles for a loss.

The Warriors also had five players named to the SCFA All-Central League First Team (One Offense/Four Defense) and seven players on the second team (Four Offense, Three Defense).

Koa Carroll, Aaron House, Marceese Yetts, Joshua Lorick and Justin Harris all earned SCFA All-Central League First Team honors.

Carroll led the Warriors during the regular season with 75 total tackles including 11 tackles for a loss. He played in all 11 games for the Warriors and had two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown to go along with two forced fumbles.

House had a solid sophomore season on the defensive line as he posted 6.5 sacks during the season, second on the team behind Brown. He finished the year with 32 total tackles including 13.5 tackles for a loss while playing in 10 games for ECC.

Yetts (Kick Returner) and Lorick (Punt Returner) earned special teams' spots on the first team. Yetts had 15 kick returns on the season and took them for 433 yards for an outstanding average of 28.9 yards per return, a mark that ranks ninth all-time for a single season in Warriors history.

Lorick posted 159 punt-return yards in 20 attempts for a 8.0 yards per return average.

Harris played on an offensive line that helped produce 1,835 rushing yards and 4,545 total yards of offense. He played in 10 games on the line for the Warriors during the regular season.

Lorick, Adam Saul, Jonathan Tejada, Brian Santana-Fis, Stephen Bradford Jr., D.J. Morgan and Justin Evans were all named to the SCFA All-Central League Second Team.

Along with his exploits on punt returns, Lorick was second on the team with 37 receptions after playing in all 11 games during the season. He posted 563 receiving yards and scored three touchdowns through the air.

Saul had an outstanding season as the Warriors punter. In 11 games, Saul had 55 punts for 2,330 yards with an average of 42.4 yards per kick. His total punting yards ranked second in the SCFA during the season and is the most punting yards in Warriors history for a single season. His yards per punt average ranked seventh in the SCFA and third all-time in Warriors' single season history.

Santana-Fis and Bradford Jr. were part of a two-headed monster in the Warriors backfield that contributed heavily to the team's 1,835 total rushing yards during the regular season. The two running backs accounted for more than half that total as Santana-Fis rushed for a team-high 665 yards on 111 carries while Bradford Jr. posted 436 rushing yards on 120 carries during the season.

Jonathan Tejada played all 11 games for the Warriors at center to help anchor the offensive line.

On defense, Morgan and Evans each earned selections after solid season. Morgan was tied for third on the team during the season with 42 tackles. He also recorded one interception. Evans posted 17 total tackles on the year and played a lot of special teams for the Warriors. He had one interception and one forced fumble during the season.
