Brown Breaks Another Record as Warriors Trounce Palomar in Season Finale

ESCONDIDO, Calif. --- One week after claiming the El Camino College career sack record, sophomore Lando Brown claimed the single-season mark as the Warriors scored a blowout victory over Palomar, 52-24, on Saturday night at Escondido High School.

Brown recorded two sacks against the Comets (5-5, 1-4) to push his season total to 16.5 for the season, surpassing Daniel Stewart's previous ECC single-season record of 15 sacks in 2008. He finished the game with a team-best nine tackles (seven solo) including four tackles for a loss.

As for the Warriors (5-5, 2-3), the victory evened up their record for the regular season and they will now await to see if they are selected to a bowl game. They finished fourth overall in the National Central League Standings and are one of six teams in the SCFA with a 5-5 record.

On Saturday, the Warriors' offense erupted for 574 yards of total offense including 225 yards on the ground.

Brian Santana-Fis had a career night as he rushed for 103 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns.

But the air attack also had their night in the spotlight as quarterback Kijjon Foots went 19-for-30 for 343 yards and two touchdowns, completing passes to seven different receivers.

The main beneficiary in the passing game was Joshua Lorick, who had five catches for 161 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, the Warriors had two interceptions including a pivotal 78-yard interception return for a touchdown by Koa Carroll in Palomar's second drive of the second half. With the Warriors leading 24-10, the Comets began the drive at midfield and advanced to the Warriors' 27 thanks to a personal foul penalty on the Warriors. But Carroll turned the tide as he picked off Comets' quarterback Kiah Reid and took it back the other way for a 31-10 advantage.

The Warriors would outscore the Comets 35-7 after Palomar returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown with 2:41 left in the first half to cut the Warriors first-half lead to 17-10.
