Warriors Strike Quickly in Big League-Opening Win over San Diego Mesa

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College employed the big play Saturday night in a 45-27 victory over San Diego Mesa in the National Division, Central League opener at Murdock Stadium.

The Warriors (5-1, 1-0) finished the night with 448 total yards of offense on just 53 plays. They had four scoring plays of more than 20 yards against the Olympians (4-2, 0-1).

Jerman Gotoy continued his stellar play on Saturday night as he went 12-for-19 for 261 yards and three touchdowns. He had touchdown passes of 86, 32, and 24 yards and he also hauled in a touchdown reception of 13 yards from the arm of wide receiver Robert Ferrel.

Cory Payne was the recipient of Gotoy's 86-yard touchdown and it was his only grab of the night, but he still led the team in receiving yards as Gotoy and Jake Novello completed passes to eight different receivers on the night.

Aaron Hatfield led the defense with seven tackles including 1.5 for a loss. The Warriors racked up four sacks as a team with Terrence Simon Jr. and Logan Taylor recording solo efforts and Vandrew Epenesa, Alfredo Reyes, Brennan Fields and James Reyes getting 0.5 sacks on the night. Keith Conley finished with two tackles but was in the backfield all night as he had four of the team's 13 QB Hurries.

The Warriors will return to action next week as they host Mount San Antonio at Murdock Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
